VIA ALLA DARSENA

Along the Lakeside with the seating by Riva 1920

A moment of relaxation and contemplation by the lake, comfortably seated on the solid scented cedar wood benches “Pure” (designed by Matteo Thun) and “Curve Bench” (designed by Brodie Neill), expertly crafted by Riva 1920.

About Riva 1920

It all began in 1920 in Cantù, in the heart of Brianza, in a small family-run artisan workshop founded by Nino Romano, specializing in the production of classic-style solid wood furniture. In the mid-1940s, Mario Riva joined the workshop, continuing the work of his father-in-law. Brothers Maurizio and Davide Riva followed in the footsteps of their father and grandfather, and in the late 1970s, they began working as carpenters in the shop, later joined by their sister Anna. This marked the beginning of an artisanal process that enhances natural wood through the use of entirely natural waxes and oils, a distinctive feature of Riva 1920.

In the Company’s chest beats a heart wade of wood

Solid wood is the primary ingredient, and only wood from controlled and planned cuts is used. This means that for every tree cut down for Riva 1920 furniture, others are planted. The circle of life is not broken, and nature is given back what it has provided. Alongside woods from controlled and planned cuts, reclaimed woods such as the millenary Kauri from New Zealand, the Briccole from the Venice Lagoon, and the Cedar of Lebanon are also used.

Each element undergoes detailed conformity checks, complemented by the use of vinyl glues and vegetable oil and wax finishes, guaranteeing an authentic and completely natural product.

Collaborations

Among Riva 1920’s prestigious collaborations personalities of the caliber of Michele De Lucchi, Renzo Piano, Mario Botta, and Mario Bellini stand out.

Riva Center

The space, born from a design idea by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, houses on the ground floor a showroom of about 1200 square meters and on the first floor a Wood Museum. The second floor, inaugurated in 2017, houses the Pangea table, a symbol of Expo 2015 designed by Michele de Lucchi, and a xylotheque with woods from all over the world.
