“Viaggio al centro della terra”

A few questions to Marco Fosella, Sara Lamon and Antonella Caramanica

Let’s start from the roots, how does your story begin?

Passion and curiosity have accompanied us since childhood and allowed us to deepen our knowledge of the natural and built world. Despite different paths and experiences, our paths crossed unexpectedly, as in the best alchemy, allowing us to form a multidisciplinary team.

Who are the people who have inspired you the most artistically and professionally?

We carefully observed those who made us excited and discover new worlds: we believe that Antoni Gaudí, Carlo Scarpa, and William Shakespeare played a preponderant role in our choice to pursue our careers.

How does nature inspire your projects and lifestyle?

Nature has often inspired our design both on a conceptual level, through the flow that makes up the cyclical nature of life, and on an executive level, through forms and materials. We believe that everyone’s personal contact with nature needs to be increased for one’s inner well-being through the exchange of energies between natural elements and body-mind.

The trip you most want to take.

We imagine ourselves on the road: Sara and Antonella dream of a trip to the land of ice and fire, Iceland; Marco pursues adventure in the land of kangaroos, Australia.

If you could be the main character in a movie, which one would you choose?

Adventure to new destinations unites us with the call of the eccentric Professor Otto Lidenbrock in Journey to the Center of the Earth, with whom we would gladly set out, armed with backpack and rope, to discover what lurks inside our planet.

If you could make a tribute to the earth (soil), what would it be?

We believe that eliminating plastics is the most desirable choice to follow, however, conscious use of them would be enough to reduce their harmful effects on our planet. We also think that the best tribute, from a land-use planning point of view, is to give back, where possible, built-up land to the ground, or to build already where it has been cemented.

If your project were music, what track would it be?

Our project could be identified in light music, a symphony that accompanies the visitor within our journey: as an ideal song the song Luce (sunsets in the northeast) by Elisa.

Which plant do you reflect yourself in and why?

The plant with which we would ideally identify is a cherry tree, a symbol of resilience. Many legends, especially in the Eastern world, tell of a plant that adapts to the weather, sustaining life with its fruit and whose blossoming brings with it new vitality and vibrancy.

What does avant gardening mean to you?

Gardening that respects nature’s time and resources, opposed to the immoderate exploitation of water resources and the use of chemicals. An approach that promotes biodiversity and helps to enhance nature without unnecessary forcing.

Five words for you closely related to the concept of land (soil).

Origin, life, water, fertility, discovery.
