Fabric Painting Workshop

BOGOLAN. Trame di terra

with Laura and Ousmane Mariko, textile designers and educators

Sunday, October 6, 11:00
Spazio Gardenia, Ala Cernobbio

Paid event* with reservation required

Earth and nature, fiber and thread, weaving and fabric.**
Discover one of the oldest traditions of West Africa: natural painting on bogolan fabric.
Guiding the spirit of this unique artistic journey is the earth: the color of one’s roots leads participants to the meaning behind the most common symbols in bogolan painting.
Like African artists, participants will rediscover the value of “handmade” as a space for (cre)ation, listening to the sensations transmitted by fibers to the touch, and then transforming them into designs on fabric.

Bio

Laura and Ousmane Mariko.

Laura, the daughter of an art collector, grew up immersed in creativity. Her personal journey spans various expressive languages, from art to dance and even theater.
Ousmane, a welder by trade, combines his excellent manual skills with proficient tailoring, acquired in his family’s workshop in Africa.
Together, they founded Madame Mariko: a perfect crossroads between art, fashion, and sustainability—a tribute to the African continent with a touch of Western taste, offering a fresh and visionary perspective on new trends.
