Recognizing that we are nature means changing our perspective: we are not merely spectators of the natural world, but living parts of a complex, interdependent, and interactive system, in which every element has value in itself.
The anthropocentric worldview, deeply rooted in Western culture, assigns value to the world only in relation to human needs. In this hierarchical vision, humans place themselves at the top, free to use the planet to fulfill their desires.
The ecocentric approach, on the other hand, acknowledges the intrinsic worth of all life forms and their relationships within the complex system of which humans are only a part. It is a circular vision, in which the human being, by rediscovering themselves, can return to living in harmony with the surrounding natural world.
Ecopsychology thus invites us to take an evolutionary step: from anthropocentrism to ecocentrism.
A path of deep ecology for those who wish to remember their roots, rediscover a sense of belonging to our shared home, and realign their “being and doing” in harmony with themselves, with others, and with the vast ecosystem of life.
