DZONOT
By Jonathan Arnaboldi and Matteo Pellicanò
Nel Padiglione Centrale, dove le parole germogliano, trasportate dal vento
A primordial and untouched nature, even before the appearance of humankind.
Inspired by cenotes—deep geological formations that open onto hidden, untouched ecosystems—DZONOT represents a threshold between light and shadow, chaos and natural order. It is an invitation to venture into the unknown and rediscover the wild in its purest form.
Water, an ancestral element, takes center stage in the project: a liquid memory of a distant time, a silent witness to a natural balance that has never been broken. Its presence marks the point of contact between the visible and the invisible, the surface and the depths, evoking the purity of places untouched by human hands.
Around the central dzonot—meaning “sacred water” and giving the project its name—vegetation grows spontaneously, untamed and free from human influence. Here, the landscape eludes control, reclaiming its independence and wild essence. The project suggests a vision of what nature once was—and could be again: pure, unspoiled, sovereign.
Just as ancient maps marked the unexplored with the warning hic sunt leones (“here there are lions”) meaning at once a caution and a call to adventure—DZONOT is a boundary space, where order meets sublime chaos. Here, nature echoes a primordial Eden: it resists dominion, refuses artifice. Visitors become explorers, invited to lose themselves, to cross the threshold of the known and, in doing so, confront the delicate boundary between human identity and the wild—discovering in apparent disorder a new harmony between humans and nature.
At the heart of Orticolario’s cultural program
The Central Pavilion once again becomes the cultural agora of the event. Within the untouched and untamed DZONOT, visitors will encounter talks, monologues, conversations, experiences, and immersive suggestions.

Il messaggio
Saper mettere da parte l’umana propensione al controllo, alla previsione, per dare spazio ad un tornio della natura, accettando fin dai presupposti qualsiasi messaggio voglia mandare. Rimanere in ascolto.

Bio
Jonathan Arnaboldi, who graduated in 2023 with a degree in Landscape Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, is a passionate designer and a curious observer. His distinctive style lies in graphic representation and meticulous attention to detail. His previous hands-on experience as a gardener, developed alongside his academic studies, has provided him with a solid foundation of practical skills that he continues to incorporate into his daily work.
Matteo Pellicanò, born in Como in 1997, has been drawn to the world of nature and the environment from an early age, pursuing studies in the agricultural field. Alongside his education, he has enriched his professional path through meaningful experiences across Italy: from Orticolario to the Vatican Gardens, from Expo Milano 2015 to several prestigious historic villas on Lake Como. Since 2021, he has been working as a freelance professional.
In 2018, Jonathan and Matteo won the Special First Prize in the Meraviglia nei Parchi competition at Euroflora with their project L’agrumeto. In 2024, with their project Seta, they were awarded the Foglia d’Oro del Lago di Como, the first prize in Orticolario Terrae’s international Creative Spaces competition, along with the Villa Carlotta and Grandi Giardini Italiani awards.
