[Concept]

Hybrid organisms, suspended between botanical reality and artistic abstraction.

Forms that are completed by the viewer’s gaze, leaving space for free interpretation and personal associations, memories, and visions.

Rorschach Plant is an artistic project within the broader research The Flesh of Plants, focused on the perception of the vegetal world and on the phenomenon of plant blindness—that is, the tendency to ignore or underestimate the presence of plants, perceived as a passive backdrop to human experience rather than as complex, dynamic organisms essential to life on Earth. This form of perceptual and cultural blindness limits our ability to recognize the ecological intelligence of the plant world, its adaptive strategies, the relationships it establishes with the environment, and the central role it plays in the planet’s balance.

The project comes from the desire to interrupt this invisibility, inviting the viewer to linger on plant forms and to recognize their extraordinary morphological richness. The work unfolds through different languages—painting, installation, and graphic design—as variations of a single formal and perceptual investigation. The works originate from plant compositions which, through juxtapositions, reflections, and symmetries, generate ambiguous, mirror-like images visually similar to Rorschach test plates.

In this process, the plant loses its immediately recognizable identity and transforms into an open figure, an imaginary organism, a liminal presence between the natural and the artificial. The ambiguity of the image slows down automatic recognition and encourages a more attentive gaze, capable of overcoming the perceptual conventions that often make the vegetal world invisible. What emerges is not a representation of the plant, but an encounter with it: a space of projection in which botany and imagination intertwine, restoring a new centrality to the plant kingdom within the contemporary gaze.

A few questions to Aurora Bresci

How did your story begin?

My research was born from an early sensitivity to the visual and perceptual dimension, initially expressed through drawing and painting. My education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and my studies in Art History provided me with technical tools and a research method based on analysis and the study of sources, which today form the structure of my work…
