Colonia, dove tutto ha inizio

A few questions for Abele Vadacca

Let’s start from the roots, how does your story begin?

My roots are in Salento, in that part of ancient Magna Graecia that inherited a culture in which our species, even before considering itself human, deemed itself mortal. I grew up among clods of red earth dusted by foreign winds that tasted of salt. Among vocalizations and whispers of breezes among the branches of mighty olive trees, among the sharp and mellifluous scents of wild herbs. A restless child, with curls impregnated with curiosity and a desire to express himself: on the walls of the house, on bread paper, with cheese wax, with rain-soaked soil, with bread crumbs, with ancient limestone.

Who are the people who have inspired you the most artistically and professionally?

I have always looked for the works of unknown artists, those great masters whose names have been lost to time and of whom art history often does not speak. The wonder of some of these great works is staggering.

How does nature inspire your projects and lifestyle?

I love water and aquatic plants. Diving is an intimate moment I share with a nature that in some cases is less violated by direct human contact, although pollution levels have now reached every part of the earth. I love what is invisible, tiny, microscopic. I love seeing nature from above and macro views.

The trip you most want to take.

Anywhere, where anything can happen, until it does.

If you could make a tribute to the earth (soil), what would it be?

Not cultivating it, living it, and seeing it in its natural evolution. Since I was a child, I loved picking fruits from wild, uncultivated plants.

If your project were music, what track would it be?

‘Mission’ by E. Morricone.

What is your definition of art?

Intimate language, necessity, knowledge.

Which artwork would you place at the center of an exhibition?

Stonehenge, dolmene menir.

What does Avant Gardening mean to you?

A harmonious fusion of art and nature; a project in continuous evolution that follows the slow change of plants and their rhythms. The perfect ethical connection to achieve beauty.

Five words for you closely related to the concept of earth (soil).

Dialogue, noise, scent, return, wisdom.
